• Spatial and remote sensing software (i.e. ARCGIS and Erdas Imagine)

Wet and Dry Labs 

The department maintains wet labs to support faculty, undergraduate and graduate students in geology and physical geography courses and research work such as geochemistry, stratigraphy and sediment analysis including:

• Rock cutting and crushing equipment
• Mineral separation facilities for geochronology
• Petrographic Microscopes

Faculty and student research involves using sophisticated equipment and advanced instrumentation such as coring equipment, flume labs, drones and more. The department also houses the West Virginia GIS Technical Center and the Food Justice Lab. Some of our lab facilities are:

• Stable Isotope Laboratory
• Source Rock Analyser
• 3D visualization CAVE
• Dendrochromology Laboratory
• Remote Sensing Laboratory
• Aqueous Geochemistry Lab

The green roof provides a view of downtown Morgantown and the Monongahela River Valley. Built during the 2007 renovation of Brooks Hall, the green roof increases the life of a roof and provide energy savings for the building. It is one of four green roofs at WVU, and the plants are sedums.
